How to Navigate Holidays

2020 has been a really tough year for most of us. We’ve dealt with a global pandemic and the fallout from that, unrest throughout the country due to racism being brought to the forefront, and a contentious election. All of these things are sure to have an impact on holiday gatherings with extended family.

The holiday season can bring about pressure to conform and do what’s expected of you, but I would encourage you to really push back and do what’s best for you this year. What will keep you safe and well? Maybe that means skipping out on a holiday gathering or two, or limiting your time at gatherings. Maybe that means calling out family members in a very direct way instead of silently objecting. Or maybe that means starting your own family traditions with your partner or friends. Whatever it is, this feels like the right time to ask yourself what you need and try to give yourself just that.

Be well.
