Disenfranchised Loss
Disenfranchised loss refers to the types of losses that may not feel socially acceptable to openly grieve. That could be the death of a pet, perinatal losses, loss of mobility, or the loss of someone who died by suicide. This type of grief tends to go unseen or unvalidated by social norms. We often don’t allow someone who is experiencing this type of loss the appropriate support because we may not even recognize that they’re experiencing grief. Processing any sort of grief or loss is not fun, but it is important! Think about the kinds of losses you or someone around you may be experiencing and reach out for help if needed.
Be well.
